After originally using NHS facilities to provide cancer care, York Against Cancer decided to develop its own facility to provide care to those living with the illness.
Located within the York Community Stadium, the Leveson Centre provides a wide range of holistic support services. These services complement clinical cancer treatment at York Hospital and help patients across North and East Yorkshire who are living with or who have experienced cancer.
A CAT A and B fit out of a shell space would provide a welcoming and comforting environment for users. High quality bespoke joinery, tiles, acoustics and finishes were specified by Fuse Studios to achieve a fantastic level of comfort and homeliness.
The major challenge to overcome was a logistical one. The project took place within a stadium complex, used during the day by multiple businesses, such as the NHS, and for sporting teams on most evenings and every weekend.
To ensure other business operations were not disturbed, all deliveries needed to be booked. Elsewhere, works to connect containment and services to the main plant rooms also required booking, for specific out-of-hours slots.
Working closely with Fuse Studios and our mechanical and electrical partners, Lodestone Projects’ Josh Donnelly led on design management and coordination. Weekly workshops were held with key supply chain partners to rapidly progress detailing and material/sample selection.
Quality was a major priority for everyone involved. Site Manager Dylan O’Reilly organised samples and benchmarks of all products to ensure these were acceptable, and the project was jointly snagged to an extraordinary level of detail. This ensured the finished product met everyone’s aspirations.
The project was delivered in 12 weeks – and snag-free.
There were no delays or disruption to any of the stadium’s tenants or sporting events during the undertaking of the project, either.
