The office refit was the refurbishment of a second-floor office housing the Leeds Bradford Airport staff. Lodestone’s brief was to take the old and tired looking offices and bring them back to life to encourage staff members to come into the office more regularly after a large stint of working from home. Lodestone along with Fuse Design Studios (architects) facilitated multiple design team meetings to begin to build the scope and fully understand the project brief. From there we were able to come up with suitable designs ranging from Bronze, Silver and then Gold in terms of spec and budget.
The project was stripped back from its current CAT B state with walls removed and then rebuilt creating a more open plan working environment with meeting rooms located around the perimeter. The offices received high quality finishes to the toilets, kitchens, office, and meeting room spaces.

challenges
The biggest challenge we faced was the logistics of working in an airport while the airport remained live 24/7. This meant a lot of careful planning to ensure the site could ensure continuity through timely delivery of materials to align with the requirements of the airport’s security department. Each vehicle had to be stopped and inspected by security when entering the premises whilst also arriving at prebooked time slots.
In addition to this, the requirement for new M&E services meant having to carry out a crane lift to install the new external condenser on the external plant deck. Co-ordinating the crane lift presented a lot of challenges due to the nature of the activity within the grounds of an airport where overhead risks are always very present. Through a lot of careful planning between ourselves, the crane company and the airports health & safety department we successfully completed the crane lift without any disruptions.

The project was delivered on time in 13 weeks snag free. The works were finished to a very high standard with no disruption to the airport’s activities.
