Avery Dennison is a global materials science and digital identification solutions company.
Their products and solutions include apparel embellishment, labelling and functional materials, radio frequency identification (RFID) inlays and tags, software applications that connect the physical and digital. As part of a recent expansion, Avery Dennison secured a new site in Harrogate within Hornbeam Business Park, and after being successful in competitive tender, Lodestone were tasked with turning this space into new high-quality manufacturing facility and office space which would showcase their products and production capabilities to the world’s elite sporting franchises.
The building was handed over to Lodestone as a two-story existing office and production space in readiness for demolition. Upon completing the demolition Lodestone then constructed the new space to reflect Avery Dennison’s requirements, including new partitions, services throughout, a new sprinkler system, electrical HV upgrade, substation and then high quality architectural finishes throughout.
The major challenge on the project was the co-ordination of the internal fit out works and external works which ran concurrently. Site Manager, Dylan O’Reilly, worked closely with our steel installer to develop detailed lifting plans and RAMS for the installation whilst Senior Project Manager Josh Turner managed design co-ordination with the architect and engineer.
Whilst the fit out works progressed internally, the project was subject to extensive external works including trenching, slab replacement and the installation of a 450,000 litre water tank and substation, so all site movements and works had to be closely controlled and managed to ensure works could be delivered safely and productively. Daily site briefings were held each morning with the team leaders to ensure this was achieved.
Externally another key aspect of the project was the new incoming water and mains electric coming on site to facilitate the new sprinkler tank and substation. Each statutory provider’s requirements needed to be coordinated with the architectural, M&E and civil & structural designs to ensure all aspects aligned, and were ready in time for NPG and Yorkshire Water arriving. Josh Turner managed this process, arranging design team meetings with all relevant parties and hold point inspections to ensure this was achieved right the first time.
